2018 Week 46: HaMakom

Week 46’s task of 50 Weeks to a Lighter More Loving You is MaHakom.

One of the names of God in the Hebrew Scriptures is HaMakom meaning “the omnipresent,” literally translated “THE PLACE.”

A traditional Jewish sentiment offered to someone in grief, “HaMakom yenachem et’chem,” means “May THE PLACE comfort you.”

While THE PLACE is the divine, the spiritual, the presence that is within us and with us at all times, THE PLACE carries a sense of belonging as well.  THE PLACE where one belongs.  We find our PLACE…in the divine, scheme of life, the world.

Having THE PLACE and A PLACE can help us with feelings of worth, comfort, peace, love, and contentment.

THE PLACE is inside you, YET an actual PLACE to connect, recharge, and be reminded of YOUR PLACE does much to facilitate your journey to a lighter, more loving you.

This week your task is to create YOUR PLACE, THE PLACE, A PLACE for you in your home where you can go and meditate, journal, read, relax, breath, get centered, connect to a higher power, and just be you.

It might be a chair, a closet, the kitchen counter, or your side of the bed.

What would you put there to make this your PLACE….your sacred space?

  • A candle,
  • blanket,
  • pillow,
  • a special book,
  • journal,
  • pen,
  • eye glasses,
  • Kleenex,
  • colored pencils,
  • meaningful photo,
  • a special rock?

Would there be any boundaries around your PLACE?

  • If candle is lit, please do not disturb?
  • Quiet time for others in your home when you are in your place?
  • Certain time of day you will give yourself permission to be there?

Take time this week to find and create your MaHakom…THE PLACE.

Cheering You on to a Whole MaHakom Heart,

Barbara

CHECK IN Week 43: Thou ART

images

Checking in on Week 43’s task of THOU ART.

This week your task is to do something creative or to do something to nurture your creativity.

Why is creativity important in your life?

  • It makes life infinitely interesting and fulfilling.
  • It is not just about making something, it is about “growing.”  The root meaning of create is ‘to grow.’
  • Creativity is what makes your life fun and is what gets you excited each and everyday.
  • When you allow yourself to create, you allow yourself to be your true self.
  • “Stop worrying about what other people think or say about you. If you have fun doing it and it keeps you constantly thinking and trying to figure out a new and better way, then that is what you need to focus on in life because creativity is what pushes passion.” —Preston Waters | Elite

Ann Voskamp shares these words about being creative:

  • Creativity, it’s good theology; it’s what God did in the beginning.
  • When we stop fearing failure, we start being artists.
  • Don’t let the sun set till you’ve done one thing that sort of scares you. The only trees that ever grow tall keep relentlessly stretching into unknown territory.
  • You have to bury your fear in faith. Otherwise you bury your talents.

Art, it’s the second person present indicative of the verb to be. Art is a way of being and when you make your life art — thou art.

Feel free to share how you nurture your creative self in the comments.

Cheering you on to a Whole THOU ART You Heart,

2018 Week 43: Thou ART

Week 43’s task of 50 Weeks to a Lighter More Loving You is Thou ART.

Fine artist John Paul Caponigro says, “The human being is a creative species.”

Our true essence, in our core, in our heart, we are creative being. We are born creative.

Unfortunately, so many of us grow up thinking we are not creative or artistic and give up all pursuits of any kind of “art.”

Sometimes we think or believe we are not “artistic” unless we have had training, receive money, or get recognition from doing some kind of art.

This not so.  Each one of us is creative.

For a lighter more loving you, nurturing your creative spirit, whether it is through a fine art or day dreaming, is important to feeling whole and happy.  Being creative improves problem solving, stress management, feelings of well-being, risk taking, self-expression, and new ways of thinking.

This week your task is to do something creative or to do something to nurture your creativity.

Here are some ideas on how to boost your creativity:

  • As with any of the personal strengths, you can boost creativity simply by paying more attention to it and intending to incorporate more of it into your life.
  • Tap into your child-self and look for ways to be more playful, to make your tasks more fun.
  • Try changing a habitual pattern. Take a different route to work, for example, and notice what you see; urban meditation.
  • Spend time outside. Being in natural settings taps into all five senses, energizes the body, and, most importantly, stimulates the imagination.
  • Renew an old hobby. Dig out your old guitar or your scrap booking supplies.
  • Start a new hobby. Keep a journal. Record your dreams. Try your hand at writing stories or poems.
  • Buy some art supplies and play.
  • Expose yourself to more arts. Visit galleries and museums; go to concerts and the theater.
  • Free-associate. Try this game: Open the dictionary to a random word and write down everything it makes you think of.
  • Write freely. Take 10 minutes to jot down anything and everything that comes to mind without judgment, a technique called ‘free-writing’ or ‘free association’. Then go back over the notes and see which ideas are worth keeping.
  • Read biographies of musicians, dancers, artists, scientists, business leaders.
  • Listen to music; listening to music stimulates the part of our brain that controls motor actions, emotions, and creativity.
  • Exercise the eyes. Moving the eyes back and forth facilitates interaction between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which may boost creative thinking
  • Create a treasure chest. Collect a bunch of inspiring items (photos, quotations, etc.)
  • Take random photos.

2018 Week 33: What’s Your Hub, Bub

IMG_0046

Week 33’s task of 50 Weeks to a Lighter More Loving You is What’s Your Hub, Bub?

A wheel hub is responsible for the main support of the wheel…The entire wheel hub assembly is responsible for the smooth and quiet rotation of the wheel…Safety of a vehicle depends on the wheel hub…A  high quality wheel hub allows a vehicle to carry  loads, function in extreme weather conditions, and run smoothly on rough roads

(Taken from a geeky car website, though in plain English for us non-car people!)

I’m not asking you to do car maintainance this week.

As a life coach, one of the tools that is most often used is a LIFE WHEEL.  Typically they look like this:

thelifewheel

There are lots of different versions.   If you are interested in how they work, go HERE.

I have a slightly different version.  It looks like this:

Image-1

(If you’d like to print out a copy and do your own LIFE WHEEL and ACTIONS, go HERE.)

It’s hard to see but the HUB of the wheel says SPIRIT.  It is there in regards to your SPIRITUAL LIFE…right in the center of everything.

It doesn’t matter what spiritual path you are on as long as you are on one.

As a car site said,

The wheel hub carries the whole weight of a vehicle and the ability of a vehicle to effectively carry loads depends on quality of its wheel hub.

I do believe that this is true for life!

What is your HUB?

What are you doing in your spiritual life to keep you running smoothly, effectively carry loads, and cope with extreme conditions?

Is it an active part of your life…daily?

This week take a look at your HUB…your spiritual practices.

Feel free to share some of your practices in the comments.

Cheering You on to a Whole Healthy Hub Heart,

Barbara
