Week Nine’s small task of 50 Weeks to a Lighter More Loving You is SSSHHHHH!
To be silent. To unplug. To sit and just be.
Did you know that there is a professional Shusher in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel? Someone who will go “SSSSHHHH” if it gets too noisy?
This struck me as the funniest thing and something I remember from my “grateful I had the chance” visit.
This week, see me as YOUR PROFESSIONAL SHUSHER!
Your task is to…
and PARTICIPATE IN 2 hours (or more if you can) of SILENCE.
That means no talking, no phone use, no TV, not even any music. This also means no cleaning, working, exercising, or anything of that kind. Preferably no napping either!
What can you do?
- Read something inspirational/spiritual
- Breathing exercises
- Look at great art in an Art Book (not the internet)
- Stare out your window
- Review your List of 10
- Notice the quiet. Write, draw, paint what it feels like.
- What is your mind doing during this Silent Time? Journal what it is doing and see what happens.
- Absolutely NOTHING! See if you can JUST BE.
If you have a spouse and/or children, send them to a meal and a movie.
Maybe you’ll get up early to find your 2 hours.
Maybe you’ll leave the house for 2 hours and retreat to a quiet, no people spot in nature.
Notice if this is really hard for you…either to ask, prep and do this OR the actual doing of the 2 hours of silence. Ask, “What is making this so hard?” Write it down.
